How to Build an APA Reference List
A step-by-step guide to a clean, correctly ordered APA 7 reference list.
A strong reference list is alphabetical, uses a hanging indent, and matches every in-text citation.
1. Start on a new page
Title it “References”, centered and bold.
2. Order alphabetically
Sort by the first author surname (or the title when there is no author).
3. Use a hanging indent
The first line is flush left; subsequent lines are indented.
